As the numbers of Covid-19 positive cases are rising, hydroxychloroquine is the need of the hour. Hydroxychloroquine is one of the drugs which have proved to work as a treatment of Covid-19. The drug can cure not only Covid-19 but other deadly diseases too like Malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
India is one of the producers of hydroxychloroquine which makes the world request India to export the same to every country. This might result in a shortage of the drug for the Indians. Therefore, the Indian government has decided to open an online portal which will check the availability of the drug in the Indian pharmacies.
The Covid- med online portal will not only help the people to know where the access point of the drug is, but also, to let people check if the stock is available in their nearby pharmacy, C&F agents, distributors and wholesellers.
Though, India has reduced the export of hydroxychloroquine, it still need to have a check on the availability in India. Hence, every pharmacy has been ordered by National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority (NPPA) to update the availability of the drug, everyday, to provide the accurate information.
The government now, has plans to add the drug, azithromycin on the portal too.
Shubhra Singh, the Chairman of NPPA said, “There is enough stock of hydroxychloroquine in the country and we are tracking its demand, availability and production on a daily basis..Ensuring the availability of the drug in the country is first priority of the government. Only after meeting the demand here, the exports are being done,”
