WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. Every week reports detail new features that are coming to the app. Reports also detail the improvements that the company is making in some of its existing features. This week we got to know about new features that will soon be available in the Facebook-owned messaging app. We also got to know the features that the company has already rolled out in the app.
WhatsApp users can make voice calls and video calls via the Android and iOS apps. But what they can’t do is make calls, both video or voice, via WhatsApp’s desktop app. That may be about to change as the messaging app is working on a feature that would enable users to make voice and video calls via WhatsApp’s Desktop app. The feature when released would also support group calls as it does in the case of the mobile app. This feature is in the testing phase.
Another feature that will be available is in-app announcements. Until now WhatsApp informed users about its newly released features via announcements on its social media pages. That is about to change as the company is planning to introduce in-app announcements in the form of banner ads within the app. Once users click on the banner ad they will get detailed information about WhatsApp’s update.
WhatsApp as per a report by WABetaInfo is planning to update its Terms of Service that will come into effect in February 2021 and will be announced via an in-app announcement. The report also says that the update will primarily focus on how WhatsApp processes user data and how businesses can use its services to store and manage their WhatsApp chats.
WhatsApp has introduced a new animated sticker pack in its Android and iOS-based app. The company has turned WHO’s ‘Together at Home’ sticker pack into an animated sticker pack.
WhatsApp has also introduced a new Sticker Search feature in its mobile apps. This feature enables users to search for relevant stickers just as they search for GIFs in the app.
Lastly, WhatsApp has introduced new wallpapers in its mobile apps. The list includes custom chat wallpapers, doodle wallpapers and light and dark wallpapers among others.
